About Our Temple
Sri Subramaniar Temple was located in Jalan Dato Esa Tampoi, Tampoi. In 1930, Mr. Sankaran Letchumi has built a small hut in the area of their residence by placing a statue of Lord Subramaniar. As the Thaipusam festival is celebrated in this temple every year, more devotees start participating in the Kavadi procession. There is also a special prayer ceremony (Abhishegam) followed by lunch every year. Mr. Velu Achuthan felt the need to build a bigger temple to accommodate the growing number of devotees. He started by officially registering this temple in 1978 and formed a committee headed by Mr. Ramalingam. Mr. Ramalingam and his committee members, with strong support from the public, started preparations for the first Maha Kumbhabhishegam in 1994. They also received help from the government through the MIC. The foundation stone laying ceremony of the temple was completed by Tun Samy Velu who was the Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and Posts and MIC President at that time.
