About Our Temple

The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, initially constructed with materials like planks and iron, has undergone several transformations over the years. By 1910, the expansion of the Jasin district office led to the construction of a government-built road, separating the temple area from the labor housing section. In the 1960s, rapid development in Jasin prompted the government to acquire land near the temple for building a school and residential area. This resulted in a significant increase in the Hindu population in the residential areas and a doubling of devotees visiting the temple. In response, the temple underwent renovations in 1983, spearheaded by the temple committee, and a small multi-purpose hall was added to the temple premises. Alongside Sri Maha Mariamman, the temple houses deities such as Vinayagar, Murugan, and Namakragham. All Hindu festivals are celebrated at this temple, and special religious rituals ceremonies are conducted for nine days leading up to the annual Navratri festival. The Alama Executive Committee is actively involved in social development, organizing educational seminars, self-motivation talks, and prayers for students before exams. In 2022, a Kumbabhishekam ceremony was conducted. The Temple Executive Committee in Jasin is currently planning to construct a new temple to accommodate the growing Hindu population in the city. While they have intentions to build temples and multipurpose halls on their own land with the original gods as their focal point, approval from the Jasin City Planning Corporation is pending. The temple administration, which also oversees the nearby Shiva temple, has registered the Association of Malaysia to encompass both temples.
