About Our Temple
In 1936, the Tamil community residing in the Guthrie estate area of Kemayan came together to establish a Mariamman temple. Initially, a small temporary shrine was set up, which later evolved into a permanent brick structure. Over time, the temple expanded to include a modest courtyard and a recreational area for estate workers and their families, transforming into a central hub for worship and communal gatherings among the Tamil residents in that specific estate section. Despite the community's dispersal due to migration, the temple continues to draw a significant number of devotees, particularly during special poojas (rituals) and festivals held on Saturdays and Pournami (full moon day). Goddess Mariamman is the primary deity of the temple, with other revered deities including Murugan, Muniswarar, Nagamma, Pechiyamman, and Arasa Maram Pillaiyar. The temple is renowned for its intricate architecture, boasting a beautifully carved entrance, an imposing head sculpture, and a peepal tree within its premises. The temple committee is responsible for its management, officially registered under the Malaysian Hindu Sangam in 2012. Playing a crucial role in the lives of devotees, the temple's annual festival is widely acknowledged as a significant cultural and religious event in the community.
