About Our Temple
In 1904, Tamil laborers were employed at the Berkeley Estate, a pepper plantation. The farm's owner, Berkeley, constructed a shrine for Mariamman and a Tamil school for the laborers. The Tamil community worshipped deities such as Vinayagar, Muneeswaran, Murugan, and Mariyamman in a temple initially built in a shed made of coconut palms. Later, Mr. VK Kalyanasundaram acquired the farm and generously donated six acres of land for a Tamil school and Mariamman temple when he sold it. The original small temple constructed by the Tamil community was eventually relocated. In 1961, the Tamil school moved to a new location. Currently, the temple stands on 1.5 acres of land donated by Mr. VK Kalyanasundaram. Ramani Gurukkal took over the temple's leadership in 1985 and has since worked tirelessly to ensure its smooth operation. Under his guidance, the temple has become a social hub, contributing to community development and revitalization through religious rituals and various social initiatives. The temple now actively engages in donations and community-focused endeavors.
