About Our Temple
During the 1940s, Tamils worked as laborers in the Sungai Wangi Perak Sitiawan estate, and Mr. Shanmugam served as a kangani during that period. To ensure protection during the night, Mr. Shanmugam worshipped Muneeswaran, placing a statue for safeguarding. Over time, the People residing in the estate began worshipping Mariamman alongside the deity Muniswaran. The estate administration recognized this practice, allocating a separate site for the temple's construction and providing financial assistance. In 1976, through the collaborative efforts of Mr. Shanmugam, Mr. Iyakannu, and Mr. Munusamy, the Mahamariamman temple was established, marked by the inaugural Kumbabhishekam ceremony. Subsequently, a natural mound of snakes appeared, leading to the incorporation of Nagama worship into the temple rituals.
