About Our Temple
The Courthill Sri Ganesar Temple, founded in 1897 by a gardener who erected a small temple with a statue of Lord Ganesha on the land of a British officer named Mr. Wagner who was popular among the local community. Mr. Wagner, initially a senior police officer who later pursued a career as a lawyer in Malaya. He was unhappy with the temple's increasingly prominent position and the installation of a bell to mark prayer times. Expressing his displeasure, he threatened to demolish the temple unless the bell was removed. Strangely enough, shortly after uttering these words, Mr. Wagner became paralyzed. In a shocking incident, the gardener had a dream in which Lord Ganesha instructed him to pray for Mr. Wagner and place holy ash on his feet and hands. Following the instructions, the gardener witnessed Mr. Wagner's recovery from paralysis. Thereafter, Mr. Wagner, acknowledging the existence of God's power, began to participate in the prayer ceremonies at the temple.
