About Our Temple
In 1948, a group of Buddhist monks, led by a prominent Thai monk, placed the Buddha statue in Charas Cave in a reclining position. Subsequently, in 1952, workers from Panching Estate installed a statue of Lord Sivalingam in the same cave. Hindu laborers on the estate conducted a simple prayer service for Lord Sivalingam in Charas Cave. In 1980, Jegadevan Nachitram, a lawyer, discovered the Sivalingam statue in Gua Charas, Panching. During his visit, he and his companions met an Indian priest who advised them to replace the existing Sivalingam idol with a larger statue of God. Jegadevan traveled to India, purchased a 9-foot-tall Sivalingam statue, and brought it to Malaysia in December 1989. The first Maha Kumbabhishegam took place on June 8, 2008. Mrs. Annalakshumi Chinnadurai, sister of Dr. C. Sethugavalar, suggested dedicating the Vinayagar Statue. The Lingeswaran Hindu Religious Organisation was formally registered with the Organisation Commission (ROS) on February 28, 2008. During a visit by Mr. M. Thannirmalai from the Thannirmalai temple in Penang, he recommended that the idol face east.
