About Our Temple
The historical roots of the Bedford Farm Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Tanjong Sepat extend back around 180 years. Originally established by British colonialists who brought in Indian workers for rubber plantation labor, the farm's leadership, led by a Malayalee foreman, responded to a request from the foreman group to build a Hindu place of worship. This led to the establishment of the Sri Maha Mariamman Ladan Bedford Temple, featuring a Peepal tree as the central sacred tree (Stala Virutcham) and housing various deities like Lord Vinayagar, Lord Murugan, Goddess Kaliamman, Lord Muniswaran, Goddess Nagamma, and Goddess Durga. Each July, the temple holds a significant celebration that draws devotees from nearby areas and farms. Despite its age surpassing 150 years, concerns regarding the safety of the temple's building structure have arisen. As a result, a decision has been taken to construct a new temple on land provided by the farm management, and the construction process is currently in progress.
