About Our Temple
The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Sogomana Estate was built in 1930 by Tamil workers employed on the estate, which belonged to the Golden Hope company. It is said that many residents of the area witnessed the shadow of a warrior with a thick mustache and a strong physique, accompanied by a white horse. This shadow was believed to be the deity Muneeswarar. Inspired by this belief, they installed an idol of Muneeswarar and began worshipping him, trusting that he would protect them, their belongings, and their lands. In later years, the community also began worshipping Goddess Mariamman alongside Lord Muneeswarar. Subsequently, a new temple was built under the name Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, and it was officially registered. Today, the temple is fully operational and continues to serve as a vital place of worship for the local community.
