About Our Temple
The Sri Maha Mariyamman Temple in Ladang Benta is located in Benta, Pahang. Around 1890, land clearing activities were initiated for the establishment of estates. During this period, the British brought in a group of laborers from Tamil Nadu, India, for estate work. Unfortunately, some workers from this group frequently fell ill, leading many locals to attribute these illnesses to supernatural causes. In an effort to address this issue, a foreman named Mr. Nagulan, hailing from Vellore, Tamil Nadu, suggested to the farm management the construction of a temple. Mr. Nagulan, who initiated prayers to the Goddess Amman at the temple, also conducted ceremonies based on religious practices from Tamil Nadu. Presently, the estate residents continue to observe various ceremonies at the temple, including Tamil Giraamathu Thiruvila, Aadi Thiruvila, Kool Kaaicutal, Theemithi, Manjal Neeratam, and Kulatheivam Poojai.
