About Our Temple
The Sri Maha Muniswarar Temple in Sungai Buaya, Banting, has its roots traced back to approximately 130 years ago. It was established by the Tamil community who lived in the plantation town of Bandar Seberang Jaya, Sungai Petani, before urban development. Unfortunately, detailed historical records from the early period are not readily available. In the 1960s, individuals from the community initiated the renovation and reconstruction of the temple. By 1997, the entire temple underwent a comprehensive renovation and was consecrated in a ceremony, marking its first Kumbabishegam. Lord Muniyandi, the presiding deity of the temple, is considered a divine force showering blessings on devotees. As of now, the temple continues to thrive, conducting regular poojas and festive celebrations. The community actively participates in various religious and cultural activities, making the temple a significant center for spiritual and communal engagement.
