About Our Temple
During the 1990s, Tamils originally from Jaffna, residing on the Suffok rubber plantation in Sitiawan, worshiped Meenakshiyamman and a trident (Sulam) as their guardian deities. Following the sale of the farm, the Tamils from the region dispersed to different areas. In 1989, those displaced Tamils formally appealed to the government and were granted 1/2 Acre of land in their residential area, at the city center, for the construction of a temple. Subsequently, in 1989, the Sri Meenakshi Amman Chokkalingeswarar Temple was established, incorporating the old temple statue, and the initial Kumbabhishekam ceremony was successfully conducted. Currently, the Meenakshi Amman Chokkalingaleswarar Temple stands prominently in the heart of the city, featuring representations of the 63 Nayanmars. The temple holds official registration, ensuring the proper performance of all religious ceremonies, including pujas.
