Sri Mucchanthi Maha Muniswarar Swami Temple,

About Our Temple

Muchchandi Muniyandi

In the 1950s, the Periya Mandor (estate supervisor), overseers, and Tamil workers who were employed in the Bonsuyo Estate and Sungai Marap Estate in the Bangi area worshipped Ellai Muniyandi as their guardian deity. The workers in the plantation outskirts revered Ellai Muniyandi to protect themselves and their belongings from diseases and wild animals. In the same area, they also established a Sri Maha Mariamman Temple. In the early days, Muniyandi was worshipped under a sacred peepal tree, where only a small black stone and a trident (sulam) were placed. Subsequently, individuals such as Perumal and Samikannu played a significant role in the development of the temple. Over time, due to urban development projects, both the Muniyandi and Mariamman temples were relocated to their current site. The Muniyandi temple is now situated near a four-road junction. Therefore, through the efforts of the current temple chairman, Mr. Panneerselvam, and with the support of devotees, a new temple was constructed and named Muchchandi Muniyandi. The original small black stone worshipped by the ancestors was buried in the ground, and a new cement statue of Muniyandi was installed above it. In 2018, 101 goats were sacrificed, and the temple was fully renovated and refurbished. Muchchandi Muniyandi is believed to be highly powerful. It is said that devotees have received many benefits, particularly relief from illnesses, quick solutions to family problems, and even success in number-based games of luck. During the annual festival, around 800 to 1,000 people participate. More than 20 goats and chickens are sacrificed, and annadhanam (food offering) is conducted. Despite changing times, such forms of kuladeivam (ancestral deity) and guardian deity worship remain deeply rooted in the lifestyle of Tamil communities.
