About Our Temple
The Sri Subramaniar Temple in Mersing has been under the management of the Anglo-Malayan Rubber Estate since its establishment in 1892. Initially, it was a simple wooden temple, but in 1929, it was handed over to the Chettiar community for minor renovations. The temple gained organizational status in 1968 when its administrative committee assumed control. In 1976, the committee initiated a reconstruction project, but construction was halted due to a land dispute involving the Hokkien Association and the temple. The conflict arose because the temple was situated on Mersing Estate land, which was subsequently sold to an individual that later transferred ownership to the Hokkien Association. After months of negotiations, the dispute was amicably resolved, with the Hokkien Association agreeing to vacate the land where the temple was erected.

The distinctiveness lies in the fact that the divine energy of Lord Muruga/Subramaniar in this temple mirrors the potency of Lord Murugan in the Thiruchendur temple, India. Similar to the Thiruchendur temple, this temple is situated near the sea. Lord Muruga is known to answer all the prayers of devotees here. Moreover, during the Thaipusam celebration, numerous Chinese devotees smash hundreds of coconuts. It's noteworthy that this temple is located adjacent to a sizable Chinese temple.
