About Our Temple
In 1902, the Jaffna community residing in the rubber plantation area known as Teluk Datuk, Banting, established a devoted worship practice centered around a statue of Lord Murugan, adorned with a spear and a milk pot. Mr. Ramasamy Kangani played a crucial role in obtaining idols of Lord Murugan, Valli, and Deivanai from India, and he envisioned the construction of a Murugan temple. However, the Japanese occupation in the early 20th century posed challenges, leading to a temporary halt in construction. Construction efforts resumed in 1938, but the Japanese occupation presented further obstacles. It wasn't until 1946 that the temple's construction was finally completed, culminating in the first Khumbanishegam ceremony. The temple faced various challenges during this period, including being requisitioned by the estate management. Later, the temple's land was acquired by a private landowner, NLFC management. Presently, the temple is officially registered, and its rituals and festivals are enthusiastically celebrated. The original Murugan temple in the region adds grandeur to the Thai Poosam festival, attracting a substantial gathering of devotees seeking divine blessings.
