About Our Temple
The Chetti Melaka community families, who had relocated from Kampong Keling to the Gajah Berang area in 1882, collaborated to construct the Muthu Mariamman temple as their protective deity. Presently, this temple holds a significant position as the primary Chetti Melaka temple. Referred to by many Melaka residents as the "DATUK OF SMALLPOX," the temple is believed to have curative properties for smallpox. In 1962, a temple trustee was established to oversee the maintenance, protection, and management of the Chetti Melaka temple, along with its properties and other belongings.
