About Our Temple

The Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple, situated in Kelana Jaya, Persiaran Raja Muda, boasts a rich history spanning over a century. Its establishment in 1890 was driven by the visionary efforts of Mr. Gopala Swami Ayyangar, renowned for his contributions to academic excellence in English and spiritual teachings. Notably, he played a pivotal role in founding a Tamil school in the Simpang Lima area, emphasizing Tamil People's education. Mr. Gopala Swami Ayyangar, bought a piece of land approximately 10,000 square feet for RM50 from Mr. Kassim (Penghulu). The land was bought with the aim of providing a spiritual sanctuary for the community. Under Mr. Gopala Swami's leadership, the temple progressed, with makeshift altars hosting small idols in its nascent stage. By 1930, a modest temple was constructed, and a board of trustees was established to oversee its affairs. The temple's first Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 1932, owing much to Mr. Gopala Swami's efforts in procuring deities, notably Lord Sri Sundararaja Perumal, from India. His endeavors also extended to acquiring a statue for the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Singapore and transporting a small idol from a Klang estate via bullock cart for installation in the temple. Initially, simple ceremonies were held in a temporary structure, but by 1930, a permanent temple with granite statues was erected. Over time, the temple flourished, with devotees demonstrating profound devotion to Lord Perumal. In 2017, the temple underwent extensive renovations, culminating in the grand celebration of its 9th Kumbhabhishekam. Mr. Gopala Swami's contributions transcended the temple, encompassing education and social welfare initiatives. Today, the temple remains a beacon of spiritual solace and guidance for devotees, symbolizing the community's resilience and commitment to preserving their cultural and spiritual heritage. Operating in accordance with Vaishnavite traditions, the temple facilitates devotees' connection with the divine through its rituals and ceremonies.
